Dennis DeSantis is intransigent. He has had it with elaborate scores that add nothing to the aural result but complicate the musician’s task. In a clear and easy-to read article, he declares:

Straw man. There is also a poetic side to fashion, but nobody claims that the outfit worn by a bicyclist, footballer, or concert singer is cycling, football playing, or singing. It’s a separate thing.
